“Anastasia,” inspired by the 1997 animated film, has grossed millions of dollars in its first few weeks previewing on Broadway, prior to its April 24 opening day at the Broadhurst Theater. Last week, the show grossed $1.2 million, according to Variety Magazine.
The producers of the show expected that much of the show’s fan base would come from adults who loved the movie as children, but producer Tom Kirdahy said, “It’s more than the twenty something young women who loved the movie as kids.”
Producers first noticed that “Anastasia” had a strong following when they released a teaser trailer for the musical on Facebook in September. The video received more than 8.5 million views in its first week.
